Lesson Outcome
Students can produce a basic AI visibility score for a brand.
What
The goal of an AI visibility audit is to understand:
- Whether the brand appears
- How the brand is described
- Which competitors appear
- Which sources AI uses
- Whether the information is accurate
- What gaps prevent stronger visibility
Audit Platforms
Students should test across:
- ChatGPT
- Gemini
- Perplexity
- Claude
- Copilot
- Google AI Overviews, where available
Audit Template
| Prompt | Platform | Brand Mentioned? | Position / Order | Competitors Mentioned | Sources Cited | Sentiment | Accuracy | Notes |
Scoring System
Use a simple 0–3 scoring model.
0 = Not Visible
The brand does not appear at all.
1 = Weak Visibility
The brand appears but with limited detail, no citation, or low confidence.
2 = Moderate Visibility
The brand appears with some useful context and partial support.
3 = Strong Visibility
The brand appears clearly, accurately, and with supporting sources or strong reasoning.
Student Exercise
Run 20 prompts across at least two AI platforms.
Then calculate:
Total score ÷ Maximum possible score = AI visibility percentage
Example:
- 20 prompts
- Maximum score: 60
- Brand score: 21
- AI visibility score: 35%
